Fortunes are moving fast in the MLB playoff odds race. At 100 of 162 games, the gap between the true contenders and the teams hanging on the edge is already large, and the numbers are starting to harden around that split.
MLB: the front-runners are separating
Milwaukee Brewers (63-37, 100.0%) are the cleanest rise on the board: 99 projected wins, a full playoff lock, and the second-best championship chance at 18.1%. Los Angeles Dodgers (63-38, 100.0%) are even stronger on the title front, with 100 projected wins and a 22.6% championship share.
The next tier is stable but not safe. New York Yankees (56-44, 96.9%) and Atlanta Braves (58-41, 96.8%) are both in excellent shape, but their odds sit below the absolute elite, and each still has work to do to separate from the field.
The fallers are the clubs that looked like postseason teams a month ago but now feel vulnerable. Chicago Cubs (56-44, 73.1%) and Chicago White Sox (53-46, 72.8%) are both in the same range as the rest of the crowded middle, where one cold week can turn a playoff position into a scramble.
NBA: the postseason is here, and the gap is real
In the NBA playoff odds picture, the top of the board has already turned into a separation story. Oklahoma City Thunder (64-18) and San Antonio Spurs (62-20) finished the regular season as the league’s clearest pace-setters, with Detroit Pistons (60-22) right behind them.
The main mover worth watching is Detroit’s path from elite regular season to postseason pressure. A 60-22 record is enough to keep them among the top teams, but the playoff board will now decide whether that dominance translates or simply becomes a good seed.
The fallers are the teams whose seasons collapsed well before the bracket tightened. Milwaukee Bucks (32-50), Chicago Bulls (31-51), and Dallas Mavericks (26-56) are all out of the top tier entirely, with the numbers showing a hard break between contenders and the league’s disappointments.
NHL: the season is over, and the standings tell the story
The NHL playoff odds board is frozen at the end of the regular season, so the movement is retrospective: who finished strong enough to matter, and who faded out of the picture. Colorado Avalanche (55-27) and Carolina Hurricanes (53-29) set the standard at the top, while teams like Dallas Stars (50-32), Buffalo Sabres (50-32), and Tampa Bay Lightning (50-32) clustered behind them.
The biggest fallers were the clubs that finished far from the race, not the ones around the cut line. Vancouver Canucks (25-57), Chicago Blackhawks (29-53), and Toronto Maple Leafs (32-50) all ended well short of contention.
One team to watch next week
Texas Rangers (50-50, 44.0%) are the swing team. They are sitting on an even record with a playoff probability that leaves plenty of room to rise or fall, and at this stage of the season, that makes them the clearest high-impact mover on the board.
